Evospon - Surgical Hemostatic Sponge, made of purified gelatin, for use in various surgical procedures where traditional hemostatics are impractical or undesirable.

Indications:

• Dental surgery
• Oral surgery, dry or saturated with thrombin solution to control bleeding in extractions and apicoectomies, especially in patients prone to extensive bleeding
• Immediate hemostasis in dentoalveolar surgery and tooth extractions in patients at risk of bleeding; mucosal tissue regeneration after mandibular cyst removal; surgical removal of oral tumors and leukoplakia; surgical treatment of periapical and dental abscesses; maxillofacial surgery

Instructions for use:

• Always use sterile technique to remove the Sterile Evospon Sponge from its packaging
• Cut to the desired size, a piece of Evospon, either dry or saturated with sterile, isotonic sodium chloride solution (sterile saline solution), can be applied with direct pressure to the bleeding site
• When applied dry, a single piece of Evospon should be manually applied to the bleeding site and held in place with moderate pressure until hemostasis is achieved
• When using with sterile saline solution, the Evospon sponge should first be immersed in the solution, squeezed between gloved fingers to eliminate air bubbles, and then re-immersed in the saline solution as needed
• Evospon should immediately return to its original size, with slight swelling in thickness and shape in the solution. Otherwise, it should be removed again and vigorously kneaded until all air is expelled and it returns to its original size, with slight swelling in thickness and shape when re-introduced into the sterile saline solution
• If used wet, the Evospon sponge can be wrung of moisture on gauze before applying to the bleeding site
• It should be held in place with moderate pressure, using a cotton ball or small gauze sponge until hemostasis is achieved
• Remove the cotton ball or gauze sponge more easily by moistening it with a few drops of sterile saline solution so as not to pull on Evospon, which should already cover a clot
• Using aspiration applied over the cotton ball or gauze sponge to draw blood into Evospon is unnecessary, as Evospon will draw sufficient blood through capillary action
• The initial application of Evospon typically controls bleeding, but if this does not happen, applications can be repeated
• For additional applications, fresh pieces prepared as described above must be used
• Only use the minimum amount of Evospon, cut to the appropriate size, needed to achieve hemostasis
• Evospon may be left at the bleeding site, if necessary
